Worried about not having "procedures" for your appraisal? Look, the CMM and CMMI
are models. They might tell you what is typically found in a good process or
procedure, but neither the models nor an appraisal team can tell your organization
how to define its own terms and standards. Functionally, a template can achieve
the same thing as a procedure, so why not just include templates in your
organization’s procedure "class" of process assets?
The conventional manifestations of "processes" and "procedures" can be a barrier
to people trying to get work done. Natural SPI teaches your SEPG and others how
to turn those traditional barriers into enablers. Help people do their job more
effectively and efficiently, and you will have won peoples’ hearts and you will
have meaningful process improvement.
Everyone wins! People with process responsibility have an easier job defining
processes as work products. The rest of the people in the organization - the
customers of process - win because they are given things that actually help them
do their work.
